This page introduces SMART Management for water systems. SMART management can be viewed as a simple four-step cycle: See the Big Picture, Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals, Use SMART Tools and Review Results. SMART Management helps you to provide water supplies that are safe and sustainable. See our videos about SMART Management on YouTube; follow the links below.
SMART Management includes applying
best practices, observing regulations, communicating effectively and using SMART Tools. You can access several SMART Tools on this website.

S.M.A.R.T. GOALS and SMART Tools are key components of SMART Management. Goals, like the ones scored in a soccer match, are the things we all get excited about; if you go for a clear goal it may be easy to get others to support you. Tools however are like soccer boots: needed to score the goals, really helpful, but not in themselves particularly exciting. You may find it easy to communicate to your customers the importance of achieving certain goals. They may be less engaged when you talk about using certain tools like Best Management Practices. However, for effective operation of your water system, S.M.A.R.T. Goals and Smart Tools are equally important. > Click on this link for SMART Tools
More About Smart Management
There are many websites providing information about management in general, and a number that cover aspects of running a water system. On this website we pull together key ideas from a number of sources. We show how, by setting SMART goals and the use of SMART tools, you can accomplish great things even when resources are limited. We have borrowed from well-established management techniques, introduced new web-based tools, and adapted the mix for use in the typical community water system.
